Thanks for a great summer New York trip...........

Just a quick note to say thanks for a great trip. Last week I travelled with my cloth samples and suit fittings across the pond to New York. I was very pleased that all the fittings went so well and thankfully surprised the amount of new clients that placed commissions with me, this with my regular clients will keep me extremely busy.

I am working from home today as I have a little jet-lag, returning home at 11pm last night. Which gives me this opportunity to write this post among other things. I look froward to getting my cutting head on and creating paper patterns for my new clients, over the next few weeks.

Thanks once again Steven.

Feeling the heat fancy a half lined coat ?.............

Here are a couple more example's of my bespoke tailoring first a light weight gabardine coat great for the hot summer we are hoping for here in London. This has been made up with half lining, with pink piped edges, this coat also has a gauntlet cuff designed by the client.

The second, a blazer also with piped edges, and gauntlet cuffs, you can clearly see the high arm hole that I belive gives so much more comfort and style to the coat. The sleeve's are sewn in by hand for ease of movement.

Following in his grandfather's footsteps.................

Today was a rare treat as I managed to cut out an over-coat for my self, with my helper for the day Connor. Now it is great to help Connor out as he is at the time of life when he is unsure of the career he would like to follow. It is a great honour to help this young man, as his grandfather Pat Davey was the master tailor who I learnt my trade from when I first started back in the year 1990. One of the first coats I ever made for myself was a black chalk stripe under the watchful eye of Pat. I have since put a little weight on over the years, but still held on to the suit. I thought it would be nice to have it altered for Connor.

Below Connor maybe following in his grandfather footsteps?

A True Savile Row Service.......

It was pointed out to me earlier this week by a great client of mine, that I am the only tailor who has a premises in Savile Row now that specialises in the softer style suits. I had never thought about this before, indeed he was right.  The firm I was trained by, Anderson and Sheppard have moved out and are now 50 yards around the corner in Old Burlington Street, the same Street that I started my bespoke tailoring business in 10 years before.

As I am based in Savile Row every day I am pleased to offer my clients a proper Savile Row service. As my client also pointed out he very much likes the idea of being able to see me any day of the week, as I informed him it’s always best to book an appointment, but if you find yourself passing your very welcome to pop in. (If you’re a new client please ask for me by name, thank you.)

He again was very pleased that he could see me cutting paper patterns for my new clientele here in the shop, and to see all the craftsmen tailors out through the back workshop working on new commissions.

Getting ready for the New Year ahead on Savile Row.........

I have now returned from my holidays (with a cracking tan), feeling refreshed and ready for the years work ahead. I have today moved in to my new premises in Savile Row, which will take a little longer to finish the make over then I first thought, the shop should be looking its best by the end of the month, and I will post some photos when it is finished.

I look froward to greeting you from my new address and showing you the latest range of materials from all the very best cloth houses.

Moving back to Savile Row......

I am pleased to announce that from January 2009, Steven Hitchcock will be returning to Savile Row.

My new address will be 13 Savile Row (lower ground). I will be sharing exclusive premises with Ray Stowers. The shop is going to have a makeover during the Christmas break ready for me when I return from my long over due holiday.

Don't worry, my price's are not going to rocket just because I am now returning to Savile Row. The prices are staying at 20 - 30% less than the larger houses. My phone numbers will also stay the same.

I would like to express my thanks to everyone at Denman and Goddard for looking after me and my business for the past 5 years. We had great fun together and I'm sure we'll find time for a pint or two in the New Year!

I now look forward to working back in Savile Row at the heart of bespoke tailoring.

U.S.A. West Coast Trip ?

I have been travelling to the east coast of America now for 7 years and it has been a great pleasure doing business across the pond with my New York clients . I am now considering a trip next fall (2009) to the West Coast. I am thinking of maybe San Franisco or Los Angeles

I would be grateful if you would let me know if you would be interested in placing an order from me if I made the trip. I have had a number of clients who have expressed interest in the past but I do need to take around a dozen or so orders to make the trip viable. If I make these numbers I will look forward to taking care of  my new West Coast clients on a regular basis.

I look forward to your enquires,

Steven Hitchcock

M.T.B.A. Taylor's Summer Ball

When us tailors get together we seem to alway have a great time, (must be the great wines). This year my girlfriend and I were invited to the private dinning room at The Merchant Taylor's Hall, by Tom Mahon who had brought the charity meal at the winter black tie tailoring dinner earlier this year. Tom and I met while working at Anderson And Sheppard.

Meeting all the old gang was great fun. Now as Tom and Paul live in Carlisle we don't see so much of each other but its great when we catch up! Myself and Paul worked under the same master tailor, "Patrick Davey" while completing our tailoring apprenticeships at Anderson and Sheppard, so have lots of storys to tell.

This year was my turn to sponsor the band, who play great Jazz after the meal and late into the night. I am good friends with Greg, who is the saxophonist, so I made him this three piece suit for his bands troubles.
